Course Description:
The ability to identify and critically appraise the literature is essential to the practice of evidence-based medicine. This one day course will provide the necessary tools for physicians to utilize the best available medical evidence in their clinical decision making. It includes didactic lectures on asking a focused research question, accessing ophthalmology-specific resources, and evaluating the various levels of clinical evidence. Small group exercises will allow participants to discuss and critically appraise current literature.

Following this program, the participant should be able to:

  • Formulate a focused research question
     
  • Access evidence-based healthcare resources specific to ophthalmology
     
  • Identify, evaluate, and categorize the various levels of clinical evidence
     
  • Identify the best evidence to address a focused clinical question
     
  • Apply the techniques from the workshop to answer proposed clinical questions
